Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal expressed satisfaction and relief over the abolition of interest and penalty on demand notices for the financial years 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 53rd meeting of the GST Council.

Sanjay Gupta, the state president of Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal, said that for a long time, the officials were harassing the traders by imposing heavy fines and interest in GST assessment. They were called to the office by giving notices.

There was a lot of disappointment and pressure among the traders. Sanjay Gupta said that after the implementation of GST, there was a possibility of default in business transactions due to many confusions and continuous changes, which neither lawyers, nor chartered accountants, nor departmental officials were able to understand and explain.

Different officers were issuing demand notices to traders as per their discretion and imposing arbitrary interest and penalty, due to which the traders were very upset. He said that the traders will get a lot of relief by abolishing the penalty and interest on the demand notices of these initial financial years.

Business leader Sanjay Gupta said that there is a need to simplify GST further because most of the time of the trader is not being spent in his business but in GST accounting, due to which his business and mind are getting adversely affected and the trader has become only a clerk. He said GST Council should bring GSTR-1A.

The decision to go ahead with GST is also appropriate because if something is missed to be added under GST R-3b, then the trader will be able to file it under 1A. Trader leader Sanjay Gupta demanded the Finance Minister to bring diesel and petrol under the ambit of GST as soon as possible so that the cost price of all goods can be reduced.

He said that the Central Government should make serious efforts to build consensus by talking to the Finance Ministers of all the states.

State President of Uttar Pradesh Adarsh Vyapar Mandal, Sanjay Gupta said that practical problems should be resolved by sitting with the traders in the stipulated period through mutual dialogue and tax rates should be reduced by comparing the tax rates with the countries implementing minimum GST globally because due to the federal structure in India, GST has gone against its basic concept.
